１st”Modern Dance”2nd”Dub Housing”3rd”New Picnic Time”の３作のレコーディングのメンツは同じ。
Dub Housingから半年後にレコーディングされた作品ゆえ、空間のとりかた等々近しいものはたしかにある。

David Thomasが一連のソロ活動に一旦移行する1982年までの５作をPere Ubuの第一次期とするならば、「家のガレージ」から「荒野」への旅の道のりが見えてくる。
前２作はガレージの改築・改造。本作は外への第一歩。ゆえに”New Picnic Time”。ゆえに幅が見えない。各自の歩くペースはさまざま。
ただそのままのメンバーで外に出る勇気はなかなか出ないもの。立ち止まったり明るくなったり、勝手にへこんだり・・・。
そのグダグダ感は音楽的なピックニックなんだ。
